More than 2,200 Chicagoans supported the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum by attending its 2009 Risa K. Lambert Chicago Luncheon, featuring Liev Schreiber and Clay Frohman of the film "Defiance." The event raised more than $3 million for the National Memorial to the Holocaust in Washington, D.C.
During the program, Schreiber and Frohman spoke about the behind-the-scenes story of the making of the epic film that brought the inspiring story of the Bielski brothers to national attention and redefined Jewish resistance during the Holocaust in the popular imagination. The film's director, Ed Zwick, also spoke by video. Frohman and Zwick are native Chicagoans.
Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley also delivered remarks. More than 100 Chicago-area Holocaust survivors, including two who fought as partisans, attended the luncheon.
Chicagoans Judy and Bob Appelbaum and Marilyn Malkin and Larry Wolf were honored for their long-time support of the museum. They were presented with watercolor reproductions of the museum painted by Holocaust survivor and museum volunteer Alfred Moritz.
Linda and Richard Price served as luncheon co-chairs, and Loren and Howard Friend were the corporate co-chairs.
